Murphy Named AAC Female Runner Of The Week
Freshman Garners Conference Weekly Honors

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) – SMU’s Charlotte-Tara Murphy was named the American Athletic Conference Female Runner Of The Week, the league announced Tuesday.

For the second-consecutive week, Murphy was the Mustangs top-finisher after winning the Gerald Richey Invitational last Saturday at Lynn Creek Park in Grand Prairie, Texas. SMU dominated the 5-kilometer race to take the team title with five Mustangs finishing in the top six, led by Murphy’s time of 17 minutes, 23.7 seconds.

The Bury St Edmunds, England, native led the Mustangs in her first collegiate race (Sept. 3) at the Bear Twilight Invitational as she finished the 4k course third with a time of 13:53.9.

The Mustangs have a week off and return to action Friday, Sept. 23, when they travel to Earlysville, Virginia, to compete in the prestigious Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational.
