Mustangs Drop 1-0 Decision to Santa Clara Friday Night
Sept. 16, 2016

DALLAS (SMU) — The SMU men's soccer team fell to Santa Clara at Westcott Field Friday night in a 1-0 decision. The Mustangs are now 2-5-0, while the Broncos improve to 4-2-0.

The first period ended with a 0-0 tie despite an 11 to one Mustang advantage in shots. However, the Broncos would rally in the second half, outshooting SMU seven to six in the second period.

The Broncos found the back of the net in the 72nd minute when junior forward Carlos Delgadillo tapped the ball in from four yards out after a long cross from senior forward James Huffer.

Garrett McLaughlin led all Mustangs in shots with four, three of which were on goal. Emil Cuello recorded three shots on goal in a strong offensive attack.

The Mustang defense limited Santa Clara to only eight shots and three on goal. Michael Nelson recorded two saves in 90 minutes of play.

SMU hosts No. 16 Akron Monday night at 8 p.m. CT.

We played pretty well except for the parts where we didn't.

For some reason we just can't put the ball in the net.

Trade them for a lacrosse team. IPF that much closer to happening if we do that (save 5 million on a soccer re-do) and you add a sport our students actually will care about - also matches up better for our long term student body geography.
