Barg Named AAC Defensive Player of the Week; Brown Earns Honor Roll Recognition

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AAC/SMU) – Senior Taylor Barg was named the American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week and sophomore goalkeeper Catie Brown earned honor roll accolades after their performances in a double overtime match at [RV] TCU, the conference announced Monday.

Barg anchored the defense in her 67th career start, tying Olivia Elliott for ninth all-time on the SMU games started list. The Dallas native logged the full 108 minutes, with a shot on goal in the 105th minute.

Starting goalkeeper Brown earned her first career AAC accolade after recording a career-high five saves. The Sacramento, Calif., native faced 19 shots in 108 minutes, and lowered her season goals against average to 1.27.

SMU opens conference play Thursday, squaring off at No. 17 USF, before heading to Orlando, Fla., to take on UCF on Sunday. Game times are slated for 6 p.m. ET/5 CT and 12 p.m. ET/11 a.m. CT.
