McLaughlin Named To AAC Weekly Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU) – Freshman Garrett McLaughlin was named to the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll, the conference announced Monday. The Oklahoma City native won the honor after recording his third career goal and assist at Memphis Saturday night.

In the eighth minute, Memphis sent an errant pass into the Tigers' back field, where McLaughlin was all alone. McLaughlin collected the bad pass and carried the ball into the far corner of the 18-yard box, where he netted a left-footed shot.

In the 56th minute, Christian Boorom collected a cross from McLaughlin, and fired a shot from six-yards out, to give SMU a 3-0 advantage.

McLaughlin has played in all 13 games, starting nine for the Mustangs in his first collegiate season.

SMU is 5-8-0 overall and 1-3-0 in AAC action. The Mustangs return to the Hilltop Sunday Oct. 23 to host Cincinnati. The match is set for 7 p.m. CT.
