SMU Falls to [RV] Memphis, 3-1
Thorpe Scores Fourth Goal of the Season

DALLAS (SMU) — Blair Thorpe scored her fourth goal of the year, and the SMU offense outshot [RV] Memphis, but the effort fell short as the SMU women's soccer team lost 3-1 at Westcott Field Thursday night. SMU slides to 10-5-1 overall, and 4-2-1 in the American Athletic Conference, while the Tigers improve to 11-3-1, and 5-1-0 in the AAC.

Trailing 2-0, Thorpe cut SMU's deficit to one in the 46th minute, punching in a cross from Vanessa Valadez. After settling a Jessica Cooley throw-in, Valadez sent a cross into the 18-yard box, where Thorpe collected and fired a shot from seven-yards out.

After the Thorpe goal, the SMU offense found a spark in the second half, recording 10 shots, six shots on frame and three corner kicks. Despite the constant SMU threat in the latter 45 minutes, Memphis' Jessica Lisi found the goal in the 90th minute to end the game.

The Mustangs outshot the Tigers, 13-12, with each team registering six shots on goal. Freshman Allie Thornton led SMU with four shots, two on goal, while Valadez took three shots, with one on frame.
Elizabeth Woerner scored two goals for Memphis, the first in the opening minute, and the second in the fifth minute.

The Mustangs host Tulsa Sunday at 1 p.m. in the final home game of the regular season. The SMU women's soccer team will honor its five seniors in a ceremony following the game. Fans can get tickets by calling 214-SMU-GAME (214-768-4263) or visiting SMUMustangs.com/tickets. All home games will be aired on PonyUp TV, with Steve [deleted] making the call.
