No. 4 SMU Falls at No. 5 Baylor, 13-6

WACO, Texas (SMU) – Freshman Vivian Yowan won both of her events and earned her first career most outstanding performer honor in equitation over fences, as the No. 4 SMU equestrian team fell, 13-6, at No. 5 Baylor Saturday afternoon.

"Obviously I am disappointed, but this was a tough road test for us and we have more work to do," SMU head coach Carol Gwin said. "We will go home, regroup and come out a better team."

Yowan opened the day in equitation over fences, where she recorded a discipline high-score of 86, en route to an 86-80 victory over Gabby Conte. Later, in equitation on the flat, the freshman topped the Bears' Alicia Gasser, 78-72. Since joining the Mustangs, Yowan has four victories in six rides.

In equitation on the flat, Sylvia de Toledo won her 56th career event, topping Shannon Hogue, 79-78.

In the western events, Keaton Crawford, Hannah McCain and Jaclyn White all earned wins. In horsemanship, Crawford won her second point as a Mustang, 72.5-71 over Kelsie Holman. McCain followed with a 75.5-74.5 victory. In reining, White claimed SMU's lone point with a 69.5-68 decision over Michelina Carbone.

Up next, the Mustangs return to Dallas to host Delaware State in their first conference meet of the season, and the final meet of the fall season. The event is slated for 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Dallas Equestrian Center.
