Men's soccer lands four on CoSIDA Academic All-District team

Four Mustangs Named To CoSIDA Academic All-District 2016-17 Men's Soccer Team

GREENWOOD, Ind. (SMU)— Bryce Clark, Colten Habecker, A.J. Jeffries, and Garrett Welch were selected as first team Division I CoSIDA Academic All-District 7 selections, the organization announced Thursday. The four Mustangs now qualify for the national CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot.

Clark, a junior defender from Los Gatos, Calif., is a finance major in the Cox School of Business. He has played and started in all 14 games for the Mustangs this season. He leads the team in assists with four and has played over 1,200 minutes for SMU this season.

Habecker, a redshirt sophomore forward from Douglassville, Penn., is a finance major with a Spanish minor. He has played in 11 games, starting five for the Mustangs. He scored his first goal of the season against American on Sept. 4, heading a Clark corner kick in the net.

Jeffries, a redshirt junior midfielder from Downers Grove, Ill., is majoring in economics and history, and minoring in philosophy and public policy and international affairs. He has played in 10 games, starting two for the Mustangs this season. He has taken four shots and played over 400 minutes for SMU.

Welch is a junior defender from Richmond, Texas. He is majoring in Public Policy and minoring in Spanish. Welch has played in 10 games, starting eight for the Mustangs this year. He has recorded two shots and has helped SMU preserve three shutouts this season.

The Mustangs are back in action for their final regular season home game against USF Saturday night. SMU's seven seniors will be honored before the match. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT.
