Women's soccer earns No. 3 seed in AAC Championship

SMU Earns No. 3 Seed For AAC Championship

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) – The SMU women's soccer team will be the No. 3 seed at the 2016 American Athletic Conference Championship, the league announced Sunday. The Mustangs will face sixth-seeded UCF on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT in the opening round in Storrs, Conn.

SMU (12-5-1, 6-2-1 American), which makes its first conference tournament appearance since 2014, defeated Houston, 3-1, in its regular-season finale to clinch the third seed in the conference tournament.

The first round of the championship will take place on Wednesday with the top two seeds, No. 1 Connecticut and No. 2 Memphis, receiving a bye. The semifinals will be held Friday, Nov. 4, with the title match slated for Sunday, Nov. 6. Fans can watch the Nov. 2 championship first round matches and Nov. 4 semifinals on The American Digital Network at www.theamerican.org/watch. The championship game on Nov. 6 will air live on ESPNU at 2 p.m. ET.

All matches will be played at Joseph J. Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. Six of the league's teams will compete for the championship and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

FR2: No. 5 Cincinnati vs. No. 4 USF – 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT

Friday, November 4 – Semifinals (Storrs, Conn.)
S1: Winner First Round 1 vs. No. 2 Memphis – 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT (American Digital Network)
S2: Winner First Round 2 vs.No. 1 UConn – 7 p.m. ET/6 p.m. CT (American Digital Network)

Sunday, November 6 – Championship (Storrs, Conn.)
Winner Semifinal 1 vs. Winner Semifinal 2 – 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. ET (ESPNU)
