Mustangs Down Connecticut In American Conference Dual

STORRS, Conn, (SMU) – The SMU men's swimming and diving team improved to 2-0 in dual meets this season with a 179-117 victory over American Athletic Conference opponent Connecticut on Friday evening at the Wolff-Zackin Natatorium. In all, the Mustangs picked up 12 event wins on the night.

Diving
Junior Bryce Klein continued to lead the Mustang divers, while posting scores on both the 1 and 3 meter springboards above NCAA Zone standards. On the 1 meter, Klein registered a six-round 380.33, and posted a 359.02 on 3 meter, both for commanding victories.

Freestyle
Freshman Ralph Koo swept the sprint freestyle races for the second consecutive dual meet, leading a sweep of Mustangs in both the 50- and 100-yard distances. Koo clocked a 20.64 in the 50 and went 45.95 in the 100. Junior Nick Badsky (21.21; 47.42) finished as the runner-up in both distances, while senior Nick Hook (21.67; 47.83) finished third.

The 200-yard freestyle went to sophomore Carson Klein who paced the field with a time of 1:42.15.

Backstroke
Junior Bartosz Krzyzaniak led the Mustang backstroke group taking the top spot in the 100-yard distance (49.49) and the runner-up spot in the 200 (1:52.96).

Breaststroke
Senior Ziga Cerkovnik took the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 56.66, finishing just ahead of freshman teammate Ronen Faur (57.26). Faur went on to win the 200 distance later in the evening, posting a time of 2:03.68.

Butterfly
Both butterfly distances also went to the Mustangs, giving Cerkovnik his second win of the night. Cerkovnik held off his competition with a 50.33 in the 100 fly, and junior Jonathan Gomez led the field in the 200 with a 1:51.88. Sophomore Garrett Carson (1:51.88) picked up second place points in the 200.

Individual Medley
Sophomore Kianu Kitching posted the highest placement for SMU in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing second in a time of 1:56.70.

Relays
Krzyzaniak, Cerkovnik, Koo and Badsky opened the event with a victory in the 200-yard medley relay posting a time of 1:31.36, and the event closed with a winning time of 3:05.04 for Krzyzaniak, Koo, Christian Scherubl and Cerkovnik in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The Mustangs' time in the medley relay was also a Wolff-Zackin Natatorium record, besting the previous time of 1:31.79 posted by West Virginia in 2005.

SMU returns to action Nov. 17-19 as swimmers head to the Texas A&M Invite in Mansfield, Texas, and divers head to Columbia, Missouri, for the Missouri Diving Invite.
