Klein Earns American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/The American) – For the fourth time this season, SMU men's diver Bryce Klein has garnered American Athletic Conference Diver of the Week honors, league officials announced Tuesday. The four awards are the most for any male diver in the conference this season.

In SMU's dual meet at Incarnate Word on Jan. 11, Klein swept both the 1- and 3-meter springboards for the third time this season. The Mustangs came away with a 177-114 victory at the event to improve their dual meet record to 3-0.

At USA Diving Nationals, the junior registered his highest finish as part of a synchronized 3 meter team with partner Bradley Christensen of Stanford. The pair combined for a two-round 694.29 to finish second. Klein also advanced to the 3-meter final with a 12th-place semifinal performance, and climbed two spots to finish 10th overall with a final score of 997.40. On 1 meter, he finished 12th registering a 317.35.

The junior also finished second (354.00) on 1 meter at the Tennessee Diving Invite, his only event of the meet.

Klein has posted NCAA Zone qualifying scores in each event this season. He will compete for a spot at the 2017 NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships March 6-8 in Columbia, Missouri. The Mustangs are back in action Jan. 27 when they host Texas A&M at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium in Mansfield, Texas.
