Klein Set For NCAA Zone Diving Championships

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU junior diver Bryce Klein begins postseason action on Monday at the 2017 NCAA Zone D Diving Championships held at the Mizzou Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Missouri. The event runs March 6-8 and determines qualifiers for the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Championships March 22-25 in Indianapolis.

Klein has qualified to compete at the event on both the 1- and 3-meter springboards, with 1 meter taking place on Monday and 3 meter on Tuesday. Event coverage begins at 11 a.m. CT each day. Five regional qualifying events will take place across the country, beginning Monday and wrapping up Saturday. Qualifying numbers vary by Zone Championship based on the previous season's success within those Zones.

Those who have automatically qualified in an event will also be eligible to compete at the National Championships in an event they finished inside the top 12 at Zones, but did not achieve automatic qualifier status.

The Southlake, Texas, native was recently named the institutional honoree for the American Athletic Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year award. He holds the SMU program records on both springboards (1m, 407.25 / 3m, 436.45) and swept the events at the conference championships last month. An eight-time all-league selection, Klein has back-to-back championships and holds the conference meet records on 1 and 3 meter.

Klein advanced to the 2016 NCAA Championships on 3 meter, finishing 17th overall at the event. These will be his third Zone Championships. Follow live results at divemeets.com and follow the Mustangs on Twitter (@SMUSwimmingM) for event updates.
