Women's Tennis Falls At No. 14 Baylor, 4-0
Mustangs Visit Houston Saturday At 2 p.m. CT

WACO, Texas (SMU) — The SMU women’s tennis team saw its five-match winning streak end Friday afternoon with a 4-0 loss to No. 14 Baylor at the Hurd Tennis Center.

Baylor won the doubles point after recording victories in No. 1 and No. 2 matches. Blair Shankle and Karina Traxler defeated Liza Buss and Macie Elliott, 6-1, in the No. 1 slot. Theresa Van Zyl and Elizabeth Profit then clinched the point for the Lady Bears with a 6-1 win against Sarai Monarrez Yesaki and Ellie Zogg in the No. 2 match.

In singles, No. 5 ranked Shankle pushed Baylor’s lead to 2-0 with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Buss in the No. 1 slot. Van Zyl then defeated Ellie Zogg 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 slot to give Baylor a 3-0 lead. In No. 5 singles, Jessica Hinojosa won in straight sets against Mary Wright, 6-4, 6-1 to clinch the match for the Lady Bears.

The Mustangs fall to 15-4 overall while the Lady Bears improved to 16-5.

SMU returns to action Saturday for a conference road match against Houston. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
