Mustangs Add Pedigo To 2017-18 Roster

DALLAS (SMU) – Head coach Jeanne Sutherland has announced the addition of Kennedy Pedigo to the SMU women's golf roster for the 2017-18 season. Pedigo will join Lauren Chappell and Sophie DiGesualdo, who have already signed National Letters of Intent to join the Mustangs on the Hilltop this fall.

"Kennedy is a strong player who loves the game and is a tireless worker," Sutherland commented. "She has the desire to be among the best in the country and our goal is to help her reach her goals. She is excited to join our team and be a great teammate. Kennedy will make a great Mustang on the course, in the community and in the classroom. We're excited to add her to our golf family."

The Fort Worth, Texas, native is already having a successful 2017. Pedigo opened the year with a runner-up finish at the Legends Tour event in Corpus Christi, and followed her performance up by winning the Tour's Spring Preview event in March. She also tied for 19th at the Kathy Whitworth Invitational, which plays host to 72 of the world's best junior golfers.

Pedigo was the Fort Worth Junior Golf Association champion in 2016, and also helped lead her team to victory as part of the Legends Junior Tour Jackie Burke Cup Team. She also placed second at the 2016 Texas State Junior Golf Championship. In March of 2016, Pedigo tied for 11th at the Kathy Whitworth Invitational and, in October, she set the course record of 7-under 64 at the Mira Vista Country Club.

In 2015, Pedigo earned Player of the Year honors from the North Texas Junior Golf Association following runner-up performances at the Preseason Junior at Walnut Creek and Battle at the Bridges. She also tied for 27th at the 2015 Women's Dixie Amateur.

Golfweek currently ranks Pedigo fifth on Texas' list for the class of 2017, and 111th on their list of the country's junior golfers.

Pedigo has an older sister, Rylee, who plays golf at Oklahoma, and a twin sister, Kelsee.

Sutherland will look to the incoming class to compete for spots in the lineup immediately.

"Our team will be youthful, but we will have four of our five starters back for the next two seasons," Sutherland added. "The incoming class will add competition to our team and have the potential to take SMU to greater heights than we've seen before."
