Allison Hughes Signs To Play Volleyball At SMU

DALLAS (SMU) – Allison Hughes, a setter from Cypress, Texas, signed a National Letter of Intent to play volleyball at SMU, program officials announced Wednesday. An AVCA Under Armour All-America watch list honoree going into her senior season, Hughes led the district and ranked 10th in Texas with 1,357 assists, averaging 10.4 per set.

The four-year letterwinner at Cypress High School was a three-time all-district selection, earning a Houston Setter of the Year nomination. She was named to the 2015 AVCA Phenom List, as well as the 2014 Preseason Fab 50 and GHCVA watch lists. Hughes served as team captain for three seasons on head coach Ashley Ahlfinger's squad.

As a member of the Willowbrook 18 Gold club team, Hughes finished second at the USAV Junior Nationals. She led her team to wins at the USAV High Performance Championship in 2014 and the USAV Disney Showcase National Qualifier in 2016. Her Willowbrook teams also finished second at the 2013 USAV Lone Star Classic National Qualifier twice, 2013 and 2015.

Hughes also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-District honors all four years at Cypress High School. She joins an SMU team that won back-to-back American Athletic Conference championships and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 3-0 win against Texas A&M last season.
