KANSAS CITY, Mo. (USC/SMU) – The SMU men’s soccer is ranked No. 17 in the latest United Soccer Coaches’ Poll, the organization announced Tuesday.

SMU (8-2, 2-1 American) moved up eight spots after being ranked No. 25 last week. The Mustangs’ rise in the latest poll comes after defeating Temple, 2-1, on the road last week.

SMU is off to its best start through 10 matches since 2010, when the Mustangs began the season 9-1. The Mustangs are No. 19 in the RPI with a 4-2 record against the Top 100.

SMU is second in the American Athletic Conference in points (5.80), goals (1.90) and assists per game (2.00).

Nine Mustangs have scored this year, including Mauro Cichero and Garrett McLaughlin, who have six goals each. The duo is tied for second in the conference in goals and both have tallied three game winners this season.

Goalkeeper Michael Nelson is second in the conference in shutouts (4) and has 21 in his career.

SMU continues its homestand Saturday with conference play against Memphis at 7 p.m.
