Cano was the AAC Defender of the Year and the tournament's Outstanding Defensive Player, Cuello was the tournament's Outstanding Offensive Player, and SMU — which was picked in the preseason to finish fifth in the conference standings — is the first team in AAC regular-season and tournament titles in the same year.
