Miller Named American Athletic Conference Women’s Runner of the Year
Sophomore Won The American Individual Title And Set School Record In 2017

Nov. 28, 2017

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/The American) – Hannah Miller has been named the American Athletic Conference Women’s Runner of the Year in a vote by the league’s head cross country coaches, the conference announced Tuesday.

The distance specialist capped off her sophomore season at the NCAA Championships, becoming the first Mustang to compete at the national meet in their first two years on the Hilltop since Agnes Sjostrom in 2013 and 2014.

Heading into nationals, Miller led SMU to a fourth place finish at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships with a record setting performance in the 6-kilometers. The Invercargill, New Zealand, native finished seventh overall with a time of 19 minutes, 50.7 seconds, crushing the school record set in 2011 by Silje Fjortoft (19:58.1).

Miller also claimed The American individual title with a time of 21:18 while leading SMU to a runner-up finish at the conference championship. It was Miller’s first collegiate victory as she became the first Mustang to win a conference individual title since Fjortoft in 2011.
