Men's Soccer Announces Spring Schedule
SMU will host three matches at Westcott Field
DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's soccer team will play five matches during its upcoming spring exhibition schedule, including three at Westcott Field.
The defending American Athletic Conference champions opened the spring on the road with matches against Major League Soccer's FC Dallas and the United Soccer League's Oklahoma City Energy FC.
SMU opens its spring home slate with contests against Richland College on April 6, before hosting Midwestern State University a week later (April 13). The Mustangs will close the spring schedule against West Texas A&M. All three matches are free to attend and scheduled for 7 p.m.
The Mustangs finished the 2017 season 17-3-1 and ranked No. 8 in the United Soccer Coaches' Poll. After becoming the first team to win both the American Athletic Conference Regular Season and Tournament titles in 2017, the Mustangs advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament for the 23rd time and the second time in the last three years (2015, 2017).
SMU's Michael Nelson and Mauro Cichero were selected in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft Friday. Nelson was selected 20th overall by the Houston Dynamo and Cichero was picked 29th overall by FC Dallas. FC Dallas also signed defender Jordan Cano to a Homegrown contract, becoming the 21st Homegrown player and 23rd Academy product signed by the club.
