Townsend Named Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar

NORMAN, Okla. (SMU/GCAA) – Recent SMU graduate Gray Townsend was named a Division I Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar, the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) announced Wednesday.

The Winston-Salem, N.C., native graduated in May with a degree in Applied Physiology and Sport Management, while maintaining a 3.31 cumulative GPA. During his final year on the Hilltop, the Mustang captain posted a 3.59 GPA.

Townsend competed in nine tournaments (27 rounds) during the 2017-18 season, and posted a 73.33 stroke-average. He recorded four top-25 finishes, including a tied for fifth finish at the 2018 American Athletic Conference Championship and a sixth-place finish at the Battle at Stono Ferry.

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least three full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team's competitive rounds, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
