SMU Racks up Five Goals In Win Over FIU

DALLAS (SMU) – The Mustangs netted two goals in the game's first five minutes as SMU improved to 4-1-1 on the season with a 5-2 win over FIU Sunday night at Westcott Field.

In their largest scoring output since 2016, the Mustangs wasted no time as Courtney Sebazco netted her third goal of the season, this one coming after a deflection from the keeper. Blair Thorpe found the back of the net for the first time this season less than two minutes later, as she scored from an angle with an assist credited to Katia Novi.

SMU reached the three-goal mark with a tally early in the second half. Hannah Allred dribbled a considerable distance before launching a missile over the keeper.

FIU scored their first goal of the game as Panther forward Kaydeen Jack was just able to beat the keeper on a half breakaway. It took SMU 59 seconds to match the goal when Katharine Herron headed home a corner from Thorpe.

After a FIU scored on a PK, Sebazco converted a PK of her own in the 79th minute to push the score to the final line of 5-2.

With the win, the Mustangs improve to 4-1-1 and secure their sixth straight victory at Westcott Field. The Panthers fall to 0-0-7 on the season. SMU again split the time in goal tonight between Catie Brown (first half) and Samantha Estrada (second half). The Mustangs racked up 20 shots on the night and limited HBU to just six.

Next up, Women's Soccer hits the road for their final weekend before conference play. SMU takes on Northern Colorado on Thursday and Colorado State on Sunday.
