SMU women's soccer head coach Chris Petrucelli and senior defender/midfielder Haley Thompson visited with PonyFans.com after the Mustangs beat Connecticut, 4-1, to make Petrucelli just the eighth coach ever to rack up 400 Div. I victories.

From SMUMustangs.com:

Dallas (SMU) - Head Coach Chris Petrucelli won his 400th career game as the Mustangs topped UCONN, 4-1, at Westcott Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Mustangs continued their tend of scoring early goals when junior Allie Thornton floated one over the head of the UConn keeper for the game's first tally. UConn was able to answer just three minutes later as Elena Santos scooped up a ball in the box for an equalizer.

In the 25th minute, Courtney Sebazco's scored what proved to be the game-winner. The freshman rocketed a shot from well outside the area into the one place the Huskies couldn't reach. Haley Thompson picked up the assist on the goal.

SMU used a quick two-goal burst late in the second half to put the game on ice. Redshirt sophomore Katina Tsapos scored her first career goal in the 76th minute. After receiving a pass, Tsapos took advantage of some open space before rifling a shot from the edge of the box. Blair Thorpe picked up her team-high fourth assist on the goal. Ale Winn scored her first career goal as well, doing so about 30 seconds after she entered the game as a substitute. Winn was able to head home a corner from Thompson for the game's final score.

Coaching in his seventh season at the helm of the Mustangs and 29th season overall, Petrucelli becomes one of eight coaches with 400 D1 wins, and one of just six active coaches to have reached the mark. Petrucelli racked up 175 wins and a national Championship while coaching at Notre Dame, 165 during his time at Texas and 60 and counting while at SMU.

With the win, the Mustangs remaine perfect at Westcott Field this season. Dating back to the 2017 campaign, SMU has won eight consecutive games on their home field. The win was the program's first ever victory over UCONN, breaking a winless streak on seven games.

Next up, the Mustangs hit the road for a pair of American Athletic Conference contests. SMU meets Cincinnati on Thursday before traveling to North Carolina for a matchup with ECU on Sunday.
