Makela, Cuello Collect American Athletic Conference Weekly Honors
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/The American) – Junior Grant Makela was named Goalkeeper of the Week and senior Emil Cuello was selected to the Honor Roll by the American Athletic Conference after the team's 3-0 victory over Memphis on Friday, the AAC announced Monday.
Makela played all 90 minutes and picked up his fifth shutout of this season. The junior turned aside all four shots he faced. With five shutouts in his 11 games in net this season, Makela and SMU lead the conference in the category. The Destin, Fla. native also ranks second in the league with his 0.79 goals against average.
Emil Cuello scored twice for his fourth and fifth goals of the season. The Orem, Utah native leads the team with five goals, and his shots on goal average is third best in the American.
This is the first weekly award for both players.
The Mustangs return home Saturday, Oct. 20 to host Cincinnati at Westcott Field at 7 p.m.
