The prestigious Kim Evans Award honors the lifetime achievement of the WGCA Hall of Fame coach from Auburn University. The Kim Evans Award will be presented annually to the college or high school coach, and Class A PGA Professional, whose support of the game through teaching, coaching and involvement in the community has helped ensure the continued growth of golf, and who represents the finest qualities the sport has to offer.

“It’s a privilege to receive this award honoring my friend Kim Evans, I am truly humbled,” said Sutherland.

A nominee must meet the following criteria to be considered for either award: they must currently be an active golf coach in NCAA, NAIA, NJCAA or High School as well as a Class A Member of the PGA of America; Recognized teacher/instructor; Active in his/her community; Promotes the game through clinics, instruction/teaching, rules seminars and open events; Active in his/her section of PGA; Strong involvement in junior golf; Collegiate coach longevity; and history of successful players both on the course and in the classroom.

The Head Coach of Southern Methodist University since 2011, Sutherland led the Mustangs to five consecutive postseason berths (2013-17), and two top-three finishes at the American Athletic Conference Championships.

Prior to SMU, Sutherland began her coaching career in 1992 at Texas A&M University where she transformed the program into one of the best in the nation. The Aggies reached postseason play in 13 of her 15 years as the head coach, leading the squad to 13 tournament crowns and three Big 12 Conference titles. Sutherland was named the Big 12 Conference Coach of the Year four times while at A&M (1995, 1997, 2006, 2007), as well as Regional Coach of the Year twice (1997, 2007).

Elected to PGA Membership in 1990, Sutherland also spent time as PGA Head Professional at Vail Golf Club in Colorado.

Sutherland, who was also the recipient of the WGCA Founders Award winner in 2016, in recognition for her outstanding service to the WGCA and women’s collegiate golf, has served as both Vice President and Division I Representative of the WGCA during her coaching career. She is committed to serving as a mentor to many young coaches and is a regular volunteer with the Salvation Army, the Dallas Independent School District and the Dallas Ronald McDonald House.
