(The National Soccer Coaches of America Association poll is the only poll with validity, because it is voted on by coaches, not media honks. This is the first time SMU has been No. 1 in the NSCAA poll.)

Southern Methodist University claims the top spot in the first regular season NSCAA/adidas Men's Division I poll after posting a pair of wins at the George Mason Classic in Fairfax, Va. The Mustangs defeated the hosts 4-2 and James Madison 2-1 to open 2001 with a 2-0 mark. Washington, St. John's, North Carolina and Maryland complete the top five, respectively, while defending NCAA champ and preseason No. 1 Connecticut slips to seventh after a loss and a draw in its first two matches.

Actually our SMU men's soccer team has been voted No. 1 in two national polls. We have a great coach and team and they should be congratulated and SUPPORTED!!!!

Go Mustangs ... win the national championship!!!!!
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
