Men's swimming & diving sweeps Loyola New Orleans

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU men's swimming team swept Loyola University New Orleans in a swimming only event Friday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium. The Mustangs won the event, 150-76. With the win, SMU improves to 3-1 in dual action this season. Loyola is ranked No. 7 in the NAIA Top 10 Poll.

The event opened with Stephen Cheng, Kianu Kitching, Jesse Washington and Matthew Nutter winning the 200-yard medley relay, and closed with Nutter, Lucas Schenke, Carson Klein and Wyatt Cronk winning the 400-yard freestyle relay.

All four seniors in action today were credited with individual victories, with Garrett Carson leading the way with a pair. Carson won the 200-yard butterfly and 200-yard individual medley. Schenke (100 free), Kitching (200 back) and Klein (500 free) also scored maximum points in their individual events.

Washington and Connor Dalbo were also double winners for SMU with Washington pacing the field in the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly and Dalbo winning both breaststroke events. Matan Segal (200 free) and Stephen Cheng (100 back) also paced the field in their respective events.

The Mustangs also wore t-shirts at the event to support the American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Powerful Minds initiative. The initiative supports The American and its student-athletes and institutions in promoting success through a healthy, powerful mind.

SMU is back in action Friday, Feb. 1 at 6 p.m. when No. 10 Texas A&M comes to Dallas.
