DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU women's swimming team opened up 2019 in dominating fashion with a 178-66 win over Loyola University New Orleans Friday at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium. Mustang divers also completed 3-meter action at the Georgia Diving Invitational in Athens.

SMU won all 14 events in the swimming-only competition against the No. 8 team in the NAIA Top 10 poll.

In relay action, Felicity Passon, Keiko Derikoletis, Erin Trahan and Sam Smith set the pace with a win in the event-opening 200-yard medley relay, and the senior group of Amy Hess, Ashley Mercadel, El Yellin and Casey Rose closed the event winning the 400-yard freestyle relay.

Passon, Gabi Grobler and Andrea Podmanikova each won two events to lead Mustang individuals. Passon was victorious in both backstroke distances, Grobler in the 50-yard freestyle and 200-yard breaststroke and Podmanikova in the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly.

Smith (100 free), Yellin (500 free) and Annabelle Corcoran (1,000 free) found success with wins in freestyle events, while Elise Johnson (100 breast), Trahan (200 fly) and Olivia Grossklaus (200 IM) rounded out the Mustang victors.

The Mustangs also wore t-shirts at the event to support the American Athletic Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee's Powerful Minds initiative. The initiative supports The American and its student-athletes and institutions in promoting success through a healthy, powerful mind.

SMU is back in action tomorrow at No. 8 Texas A&M at 1 p.m.
