Freshman midfielder Jill Heinemann headed in a Sarah Harvey corner kick in the 12 minute, and freshman goalkeeper Erin McLeod notched her first college shutout as the SMU women's soccer team knocked off Oklahoma, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Westcott Field.

Heinemann's goal was the first surrendered this season by OU (3-1), which had shut out all three of its opponents this season.

The game marked the return to the lineup of Western Athletic Conference Player of the Year Tara Comfort, who had been out with a hamstring injury, and the college debut of midfielder Erin MacCullum, who gave the Mustangs a much-needed infusion of speed from her midfield spot.

Heinemann's goal came when Harvey lifted a corner kick from the left side, all the way in front of the goal and nearly curling the shot directly into the net. Heinemann rose above the OU defense, nodding it into the net.

SMU head coach George Van Linder said he was pleased that McLeod registered her first shutout.

"We needed that," Van Linder said. "We've been a little frustrated that we haven't been getting more goals, but while we're straightening that out, it's good to see the defense tighten up like it did today."

Part of the reason for the handcuffed offense was that OU's defense shadowed Comfort all over the field, and Harvey endured a physical beating, spending much of the day on the ground.

"Sarah's used to that -- she got hit a lot last year when Tara was out (Comfort missed the 2000 season with a knee injury)," Van Linder said of Harvey. "But she played a great game. I told her she worked hard enough to get a goal. It was unlucky she didn't get one of her own."
