Program-Best Four Mustangs Earn All-AAC Accolades

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) – Four SMU rowing student-athletes were named to the All-American Athletic Conference, including two-time selection Emily Fogg. The senior coxswain was joined on the first team by boat mate Brittany Rigg, while Adelaide Moore and Melissa Chambers earned second-team honors.

With a program-high all-conference selections, and a first-place finish in the sport's top event with an open-water win in the First Varsity Eight at the conference championships, head coach Kim Cupini and her staff were named as the league's Staff of the Year. The staff guided the crews to a second-place finish at the championships by the smallest margin ever, trailing UCF by four points.

Over the course of the season, SMU posted wins against Alabama, a squad that spent time ranked in the coaches poll and Creighton. The 1V8 crew also posted the fastest time at the Sunshine State Invite, which included conference champion UCF.

To start the season, SMU's 1V8 earned a bronze medal at the Head of the Oklahoma, and both the freshman V8 and V4 crews won their events.

"Achievements like these in our second season together at SMU shows the direction the program is going," Cupini stated. "I'm extremely proud of our entire team, and it's great to see these women honored for their efforts."

Great job. Coaching change made a huge difference.

Found this a bit sad that Sacramento didn’t even get to compete:

Due to the updated championship schedule and its University academic requirements for finals, Sacramento State will be unable to make it to Oklahoma City.
