SMU’s Gyulai Resigns To Pursue Other Opportunities

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU women's tennis coach Kati Gyulai is resigning her position on the Hilltop to pursue other professional opportunities, the coach and school announced today.

Gyulai just finished her eighth season at SMU after being named head coach in February 2012. She arrived on the Hilltop after three-plus seasons as head coach at her alma mater, Wyoming. She is currently 186-156 after 13 seasons as a head coach, which includes a 100-82 mark at SMU. Gyulai guided SMU to a runner-up finish at the American Athletic Conference Championship in 2018, the Mustangs' best finish as a member of the AAC, and ended the season ranked 54th by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the first year-end ranking since 2013.

"I'm very thankful for my time on the Hilltop, but I decided it was time to seek a new challenge," Gyulai said. "I'm grateful for the support of my student-athletes, fellow coaches and administration during my time here, and I wish nothing but the best for SMU Tennis."

"I want to thank Coach Gyulai for her hard work and dedication over the past eight seasons," said Director of Athletics Rick Hart. "She arrived on the Hilltop during a difficult time when we were without an on-campus facility, but never made excuses. Once we opened the new SMU Tennis Center, her teams continued to improve, evidenced by our runner-up finish in the AAC a year ago. We wish Kati the best as she takes on new opportunities."

SMU will now begin a national search for a new leader for the program.
