Thornton and Sebazco Selected Preseason All-American Athletic Conference

DALLAS (SMU) – The American Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday afternoon that SMU senior forward Allie Thornton and sophomore midfielder Courtney Sebazco both earned spots on the preseason All-AAC team, with Thornton's selection being unanimous.

In her junior season, Thornton led the Mustang offense with 10 goals, including game-winning shots in four of the season's games. She appeared in 17 games with 17 starts, recording 33 shots with 18 shots on goal. Thornton earned All-AAC First Team, United Soccer Coaches All-Region Selection and was a three-time AAC weekly honoree in 2018.

Sebazco played and started in 17 matches as well, clocking 1,383 minutes throughout the season. She tallied six goals and four assists with 53 total shots and team-leading 24 shots on goal. The 2018 AAC Rookie of the Year also earned a spot on the All-AAC second team and was named the SMU Female Newcomer of the Year.

The AAC also announced the preseason rankings for the conference's women's soccer programs. The Mustangs, who received votes in the preseason United Coaches Soccer Poll, earned a fourth place ranking. USF, No. 18 in the United Coaches Soccer Poll, landed in the conference's top spot, followed by No. 20 Memphis and UCF.

SMU women's soccer opens up the season on the road at Northwestern in Evanston, Ill. on Thursday, Aug. 22 at 7 p.m.
