SMU Defeats DePaul For Second Consecutive Road Win

CHICAGO, Ill. (SMU) – A game-winning goal from junior Hannah Allred in the 89th minute pushed [RV] SMU past DePaul 2-1 on Sunday.

"There was a great response from our athletes after we gave up the equalizer," head coach Chris Petrucelli said. "It was good to have in such a tough environment."

The Mustangs (2-0-0) scored early in the contest when SMU was awarded a free kick in the fifth minute from just outside of the penalty box. Sophomore Celiana Torres took the kick and found the back of the net to give SMU a 1-0 lead.

DePaul (0-2-0) outshot the Mustangs 18 to 10, but wasn't able to put anything away until the Blue Demons added a goal of their own in the 78th minute. Freshman Kristin Boos got a shot past Tatum Sutherland, who had seven saves throughout the match, to tie the game at one.

It seemed as if the match would go into overtime, until Allred made a break up the right side of the field and buried a shot into the left side of the net with one minute left in regulation. The goal won it, 2-1, for the Mustangs.

"Two wins in a week is hard and two on the road is even more difficult," Petrucelli said. "We're really happy with the results and are excited to be back home."

SMU returns back to Dallas for the home-opener on Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. versus Texas Southern at Westcott Field.
