Women's soccer cracks top 25

SMU Ranked 25th In United Soccer Coaches Poll

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (SMU) –SMU women's soccer entered the United Soccer Coaches Poll at No. 25 on Tuesday after opening the season with a pair of road victories.

The Mustangs, who were receiving votes in the preseason poll, started the season with a shutout victory over Northwestern behind a clean sheet from freshman Tatum Sutherland and a penalty kick conversion by senior Allie Thornton. The Mustangs followed it up with a 2-1 win over DePaul, with junior Hannah Allred providing the go-ahead goal in the final minute.

The last time that the Mustangs were nationally ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll was Sep. 5, 2017, when they were ranked 23rd after starting the season with a 3-0-2 record. Two of those wins and one tie were against ranked teams.

SMU opens their home campaign this Thursday, Aug. 29 at 7 p.m. against Texas Southern and Sunday, Sep. 1 against [RV] TCU, also at 7 p.m.
