Munjoma's Two Goals Lead Mustangs Past Saint Louis

DALLAS (SMU) -- Eddie Munjoma scored in the 3rd and 51st minutes to register his first career multi-goal game en route to a win vs .Saint Louis - propelling the SMU Mustangs to a 3-0-0 start for the sixth time since 2000.

The first shot of the game was a result of a foul drawn by Garrett McLaughlin, who was tackled just outside the box. Munjoma lined up to take the set piece and just like he did against HBU earlier in the week, bent his shot around the wall, freezing the goalkeeper and tallying a goal.

The early goal marks the team's seventh first half goal of the season.

"We want to start as fast as we can." Coach Hudson said postgame. "We talk a lot about energy and setting the mentality. It makes you feel a heck of a lot better when you score early."

SMU would never surrender the lead, as sophomore Shane Lanson earned a clean sheet in his first career start at SMU. Assisting Lanson in the Mustangs' defensive third was Brandon Terwege, who made his first start since transferring from UCLA.

The Mustangs out shot the Billikens 7-4 in the first half and came out of halftime on the attack.

In the 51st minute, Nick Taylor beat his defender before passing back to Knut Ahlander who then served a cross to the back post where Munjoma was awaiting the ball. In an attempt to play the ball across the face of the goal, Munjoma's shot squeezed through the keeper's legs and found the back of the net, giving the Mustangs a commanding 2-0 lead.

The win marks the team's seventh in eight games, dating back to last season - with the lone loss coming to Oregon State in the 2018 NCAA tournament. SMU is back in action on Monday, September 9th at 7 p.m. when it hosts 2018 Big West champs UC Riverside (3-0-0).
