Mustangs Sweep TCU In Dominant Fashion Wednesday

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU outscored TCU 46-28 in kills en route to a dominant 3-0 win in Moody Coliseum Wednesday night (25-20, 25-20, 25-18). Rachel Woulfe led the Mustangs with a match-high14 kills, hitting .545. Hannah Jacobs added 12 kills to stretch her double-digit streak to nine matches.

Woulfe scored six kills in the third set, including match point with a smash across from the right side. With the score tied, 12-12, freshman Mekenzi Heckmann scored a kill and then went to the service line. Two aces later, the Mustangs had a three-point lead. The Mustangs stretched the lead to five, 18-13, on the third ace of the set, and went on to win by seven, 25-18, to complete the sweep. With the win, SMU improved to 7-2 on the season and 14-7 all-time against TCU.

Lily Heim had 38 assists with six digs, guiding the Mustangs to a .229 attack percentage. Heckmann finished with eight kills, and freshman Alex Glover added six with six blocks. Defensively, SMU held TCU (5-4) to a .106 attack percentage with 52 digs and six blocks. Kendall Patterson posted 15 digs, and Montana Watts recorded 11.

SMU trailed 18-16 in the first set, but rallied to tie the score, 19-19, with a kill by Jacobs followed by two from Woulfe. TCU scored a kill to maintain the lead, but SMU scored the next six points to take the early advantage. SMU scored six straight to take a 10-5 in the second set. TCU cut the lead to one, 16-15, but the Mustangs never relinquished the lead.

The Mustangs play at Oklahoma Saturday at 2 p.m. on Fox Sports Southwest Plus. SMU starts American Athletic Conference action Sept. 27 at Houston.
