Diego Walsh got robbed

Postby PonyGirl » Fri Dec 13, 2002 2:37 pm

Diego Walsh finished third in the voting for the Hermann Award - soccer's Heisman Trophy. There's no way he should have finished third. He's the best player in the country.

Kind of like us not being one of the top seeds in this year's tournament.

Tonight, Creighton, a team that we beat 3-1 on their field, will have a chance to play for the national championship on our field. Isnt that a kick in the guts? Interesting that they will play Stanford, the only team that legitimately beat us this year (3-2, in Palo Alto) without going to penalty kicks.

well yeah we beat creighton in the regular season, but the postseason is completely different. some team's adopt a more competitive attitude and that's something that SMU teams have lacked in the past few years. it would have been nice to see us play creighton again in the ncaa tourney though. one of the days, we'll make it to the college cup ! i have plenty of faith in schellas!

You have a short memory, amigo. We were in the College Cup the year before last. Was that one of these recent seasons when you thought we lacked a competitive attitude?

I went to the College Cup. I can understand why our freshman-laden team lost earlier this year to Stanford - those guys are huge and really good. They're the best college team I saw this year. But hats off to UCLA. They beat Stanford all 3 times the teams met this year. You can't argue with that. They deserve to be called champions.

And SMU was screwed on our tournament seeding.

SMU had a good team. SMU lost to Boston College. Boston College sucked, and was demolished by Creighton 6 to 2. Had they not given up late goals, SMU would not have been forced to lose in PK's (again), and SMU would have had another chance at Stanford, who I agree was far and away the best team in the country this year. SMU should be fairly happy doing what they did, with so many young players, though it was disappointing not to make it to the Cup on their home field. Zindel and Hashimoto were very impressive as freshman.
