From SMUMustangs.com:

No. 4 Mustangs Beat UCA 3-0, Improve to 9-0

DALLAS (SMU) -- The No. 4/2 Mustangs improved to 9-0-0 for the first time since 2010 on Tuesday night when they defeated Central Arkansas (4-4-1, 0-0-0), 3-0 at Westcott Field.

30 seconds into the match SMU goalkeeper Grant Makela, who returned to the field for his first action since September 2, faced his toughest test of the night when a Central Arkansas striker took a shot on goal from a few feet outside to 6-yard box. Makela dropped to the ground and came up with a save, en route to his second clean sheet of the season. The Destin, Fla. native would corral seven saves in the win.

The Mustangs (9-0-0, 1-0-0) took some time to regain their composure after the initial Bears' attack, before cracking the game open in the 27th minute when the familiar combination of Ahlander and McLaughlin struck again for SMU. The two played keep away from the UCA defense in the attacking third before Ahlander played a perfect ball to McLaughlin who buried his team-best eighth goal of the season. The assist was Ahlander's seventh of the season, good for second-most in Division I soccer.

Up 1-0, the Mustangs went on a hunt for an insurance goal in the first half. That goal finally came in the 43rd minute when Talen Maples played the ball Lane Warrington, who drove the ball up the touch line before crossing it in to Wyatt Priest who put the Mustangs up 2-0 just before halftime. It was Priest's first goal since his bicycle kick that was showcased on ESPN vs. Valpo on September 13.

Coming out of the break, SMU was tested early as the Bears had a pair of good chances early in the second half, but both chances were saved by Makela. The Mustangs would open the floodgates in 60th minute when Gabriel Costa played a through ball to Nick Taylor who fed a pass to Knut Ahlander who tallied his fourth goal of the season.

Ahlander's goal paired with his assist gave the Norway native three points on the night, a feat that he's accomplished in four of the team's nine matches. For Costa, who's the reigning AAC offensive player of the week, the assist moved him to seven points in the last two matches. His 2.0 PPG average over the course of his career is the best in the nation.

The Mustangs would run off the remaining 30 minutes of clock without conceding a goal, earning their six shutout in nine matches. SMU is now outscoring opponents 31-3 on the season.

"We created some really good chances," head coach Kevin Hudson said post game. "We told them at halftime that we needed to be better and we were better for parts of it. We're happy to get a win."

The No. 4/2 Mustangs now begin preparation for one of the biggest games on their schedule as No. 11/9 UCF makes its way to Dallas for a primetime showdown on Sunday night. Sunday's match will be the first top-10 regular season matchup at Westcott Field since Sept. 8, 2006 when the No. 3 Mustangs beat No. 10 Indiana, 1-0. The game will be live streamed on the American Digital Network and kick is slated for a 7:00 p.m. kick.

These guys are good. Expect to see everyone playing defensively against us so SOG are going to be harder to come by.
