SMU women's soccer edged, 1-0, at Connecticut

HARTFORD, Conn. (SMU) – The Mustangs fell 1-0 in a tough contest at Connecticut on Sunday afternoon.

SMU (8-4-1, 1-3-0) and the Huskies (6-7-1, 2-4-0) battled throughout the first 45 minutes, but neither team could secure a goal. The two were tied in the shots column at six heading into the break.

The Mustangs outshot UConn in the second half, eight to six. Celiana Torres led the charge with three followed by Jewel Boland, Isabelle Nashmi and Hannah Allred with two apiece. All three of Torres' shots were on goal.

"We had a lot of good shots but just didn't finish them," head coach Chris Petrucelli said. "We let them hang around which allowed them to gain some momentum."

The Huskies capitalized on a chance and put the ball just past Tatum Sutherland for the game-winner in the 78th minute.

"These games on the road are hard so we're definitely looking forward to playing at home," Petrucelli said.

SMU is back at home for more conference play on Thursday, Oct. 17 to take on Cincinnati at 7 p.m. CT and Sunday, Oct. 20 to play ECU at 1 p.m. for Senior Day.
