TULSA, Okla. (SMU) – SMU earned its eighth shutout of the season with a 3-0 win over Tulsa on Thursday night.

The Mustangs (10-5-1, 3-4-0) dominated on both sides of the ball, holding the Golden Hurricane (8-9-0, 2-5-0) to a mere five shots with one on goal compared to SMU's 22 shots and eight on goal.

"We were pretty dangerous all night long, even from the beginning," head coach Chris Petrucelli said. "We moved the ball well and created a good number of goal-scoring opportunities."

SMU took the lead when Courtney Sebazco sent a free kick soaring into the box and Allie Thornton headed it into the lower right-hand corner. The goal was Thornton's 11th of the season and sixth game-winner to put her at 13 for her career.

Coming out of the break, the Mustangs kept pushing on offense, outshooting Tulsa 9-3 in the second half and scoring two insurance goals.

Freshman Wayny Balata earned the first goal of her career when she found the back of the net in the upper left-hand corner. The shot came during the 75th minute off an assist from Thornton to increase SMU's lead to 2-0.

Just over two minutes later, Balata added another point to her stat column with an assist to Hannah Allred, who shot the ball just past Tulsa's goalie to secure the 3-0 win.

"I thought she was the best player on the field tonight," Petrucelli said about Balata. "She's come into her own the past couple of weeks and looks like one of the best players in every game we play. We knew she was a good player, but she's in really good form at the moment."

Kierstin Flint saw time in the goal for SMU and saved the lone Golden Hurricane shot to assist the Mustang defense in earning the shutout.

"Those guys in the back played well," Petrucelli said. "Tulsa presented some issues in the counter attack and we were able to settle those down for the most part."

SMU continues its final road trip of the regular season, taking on Memphis on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. CT.
