SMU Wins West Division Championship On Senior Day

DALLAS (SMU) – The SMU volleyball team won the American Athletic Conference West Division Championship with a 3-0 win against Houston Sunday to finish with an 11-5 record in conference matches. SMU is 18-8 overall.

In their final conference match in Moody Coliseum, seniors Montana Watts and Kendall Patterson went out in style with the sweep, winning 28-26 in the third set. Trying to extend the match, Houston trailed 24-22. The Cougars scored two kills and an ace to take a 25-24 lead. Hannah Jacobs' kill gave SMU a 26-25 lead. Houston scored on the next serve before Jacobs went back-to-back to end the match.

Jacobs matched freshman Jadyn Bauss with a team-high 12 kills. Watts finished with 23 digs, averaging 7.75 in her final weekend of conference matches. She posted a career-high 39 digs Friday night. Patterson tallied 11 digs and one assist. Lily Heim finished with 39 assists and seven digs. Rachel Woulfe scored nine kills, and Meryn Kennedy scored six with five blocks.

SMU cruised to a first-set win, 25-16, and took the second set with a 25-21 victory. Houston scored 15 kills in the second set to SMU's 14, but the Cougars committed eight attack errors in the loss.

The Mustangs have a bye in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Championship, which starts Friday in Orlando, Fla. SMU plays with winner Friday's match between No. 3 UCF and No. 6 Tulsa Saturday at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT. The match will stream live on the American Digital Network.
