Montana Watts Named AAC Volleyball Defensive Player Of The Week

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (SMU/AAC) – Montana Watts was named American Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week Monday after leading SMU to the west division championship. The senior had 23 digs in a three-set win against Houston Sunday. Friday, Watts recorded a career-high 39 digs against Tulane, which is tied for second all-time in a match at SMU.

The win against Houston, in which SMU limited the Cougars to a .113 attack percentage, pushed SMU's conference record to 11-5, one win above both Houston and Tulane. The Mustangs are 18-8 overall, and play in the semifinal round of the American Athletic Conference Championship at 1 p.m. ET/12 p.m. CT in Orlando, Fla.

Watts has previously been named to the league's Weekly Honor Roll three times this season, and has earned three other Player of the Week awards during her career. She led the league with 7.75 digs per set on its final weekend of regular-season competition. Watts finished the 16-match league schedule with 5.09 digs per set, ranking second in the conference.
