SMU's Soren Linder named WAC Athlete of the Week

DENVER – SMU’s Soeren Linder and Fresno State’s Kara June have been named the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s cross country Athletes of the Week, respectively.

Linder, a native of Hamburg, Germany, finished second at the Movin’ Mavs Cross Country Challenge in Arlington, Texas. He posted a time of 20:31 at the four-mile event, helping the Mustangs take the team title.

June, a senior from Santa Maria, Calif., won the Stanislaus Invitational for the second time in as many seasons. June ran the 6k event in a time of 21:41, 20 seconds better than her finish in 2002. The time is also five seconds better than her 2002 season-best.

Additional men’s nominees included; Forrest Braiden, Boise State; Owain Matthews, Tulsa

Additional women’s nominees included: Robin Wemple, Boise State; Karin van Rooyen, SMU and Monica Joannes, Tulsa.
