Hyndman earns 300th SMU victory as Mustangs defeat UT-Dallas, 4-0
Head coach sets record for most victories by any SMU coach in any sport

DALLAS (SMU) - The ninth-ranked SMU men's soccer team posted its fifth straight shut out enroute to a 4-0 victory over UT-Dallas Wednesday evening at Westcott Field on the campus of SMU. SMU improves to 6-1-1 overall while the Comets even their record to 4-4 on the year.

The victory also gives head coach Schellas Hyndman the distinguishable title of SMU’s "winningest" coach, passing men’s basketball coach Doc Hayes, who posted a record of 299 wins and 191 losses as head coach from 1947-67. Hyndman is also nearing the 400-win mark for his career, needing two more wins to eclipse that figure.

After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs kicked the offense into high gear, scoring three of their goals in a span of 12 minutes. Sophomore midfielder David Chun collected his second goal of the season with a rocket off a rebounded shot at the 52:32 mark. Junior forward Ryan Latham gave SMU a 2-0 lead at the 57:29 mark while freshman defender Mynor Gonzalez posted his first collegiate goal at the 64:41 mark, giving SMU a comfortable 3-0 lead. Sophomore forward Duke Hashimoto closed out the scoring for SMU at the 84:41 mark.

SMU outshot the Comets, 22-5, while UTD goalkeeper Adam Wooster made 10 saves.
SMU continues its brief homestand with a contest vs. Centenary Saturday night beginning at 7:30 p.m. at Westcott Field.

Congratulations to coach, it was a fun game, particularly when our guys finally started pounding them into the net. The only thing that would have made it better would have been to break the record against a better team. Too bad they had to settle for a tie with Stanford, that would have been perfect.

Stanford's what, 1-5-1 or something now? They're having an awful year. Their name has a little more clout, but it sounds like SMU should have trampled them too.
