Men's golf's Goodwin, Meissner, Thompson named Ping All-Central Region

NORMAN, Okla.- Three SMU men's golfers were named to the 2020 Ping All-Central Region Team. Noah Goodwin, Mac Meissner and Justin Thompson all earned selection to the 28-member team. It is the second consecutive all-region nod for Goodwin and Meissner, while Thompson earns his first selection to the team.

Noah Goodwin averaged 70.60 strokes per round in 2019-20, which ranks third in SMU history in single-season stroke average. He won the Maridoe Intercollegiate with a 1-under 216, one of four top-10 finishes in five events this season. Nine of his 15 rounds were under-par, and six of those scorecards were in the 60s. Goodwin finished the season ranked 14th in the Golfstat Rankings.

Mac Meissner broke the school's single-season record with a 70.44 scoring average. He had four top-five finishes, including a victory at the Royal Oaks Intercollegiate at 8-under par, and a fourth-place finish at the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate, which earned him AAC Golfer of the Week honors. Meissner, who ranked 15th in the final Golfstat Rankings, signed 14 par-or-better scorecards in 16 rounds.

Justin Thompson had three top-10 finishes during his breakout 2019-20 campaign, where his 70.93 stroke average ranked fifth on the school's single-season list. Thompson's season started with a second-place, 11-under showing at the Trinity Forest Invitational, then followed up with a third-place finish at the Maridoe Intercollegiate. Thompson scored par-or-better nine times in 15 rounds.

The Mustangs now have had five All-Region selections in the last two seasons. SMU won two events in the shortened 2019-20 season, and finished the year ranked No. 12 in the Golfstat rankings, the school's best finish since the organization began ranking teams in 1993-94.
