McLaughlin Elected To Texas Track and Field Hall of Fame

WYLIE, Texas (SMU/Texas Track and Field Hall of Fame) – Former SMU head coach Ted McLaughlin was elected to the Texas Track and Field Hall of Fame Class of 2020. McLaughlin guided the Mustangs to three national championships while leading the program from 1980-1988.

A 2014 inductee into the SMU Athletics Hall of Fame, McLaughlin coached 23 individual national champions and three Olympic medalists, including fellow 2014 SMU inductee Keith Connor, as well as Russell Carter (2013 inductee) and Michael Carter (2010). Along with Connor and Michael Carter, former Mustang and McLaughlin-coached Kevin Robinzine helped the USA win the 1988 4x400 meter relay gold medal.

Prior to their first national title in 1983, SMU took second place at both the indoor and outdoor NCAA championships in 1979. McLaughlin was named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2006.

The Texas Track & Field Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place the evening of January 8, 2021 at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grapevine at 7:00 p.m.
