Women's swimming/diving falls to TCU

Mustangs Fall To TCU In Home Opener

DALLAS (SMU) – Nicole Stambo swept diving events, while Olivia Grossklaus and Johanna Gudmundsdottir led Mustang swimmers against TCU on Friday afternoon at the Robson & Lindley Aquatics Center and Barr-McMillion Natatorium.

Stambo was one of two divers, with Taylor Ohlhauser joining, in the top three of both 1 and 3 meter at the dual meet. She posted her first NCAA Zone qualifying score of the season on 1 meter, with a six-round 279.30. On 3 meter, she finished with a 270.38. Ohlhauser scored third-place points on both boards.

On the swimming side, Grossklaus picked up her win in the 200-yard butterfly, turning in a time of 2:00.82, nearly three seconds ahead of the second-place finisher.

Grossklaus also had a standout finish in the 500-yard freestyle, touching second in 5:02.74.

Newcomer Gudmundsdottir won her first individual race as a Mustang, taking the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.83.

SMU was second in both relays, opening the night with a 1:44.52 from Indra Vandenbussche, Gabi Grobler, Valentina Becerra and Gudmundsdottir in the 200-yard medley relay. The evening closed with a 3:29.31 in the 400-yard freestyle relay from Gudmundsdottir, Vandenbussche, Sam Smith and Grossklaus.

I am a bit surprised the Women lost to TCU for the first time. It appears we lost too much to graduation, while recruiting needs to help replenish the team.
