Smithson Qualifies For NCAA Championships On Platform

LEXINGTON, Ky. (SMU) – For the second straight season, Peter Smithson has qualified for the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships on platform.

Coming off an automatic bid on 3 meter from day one, Smithson (648.50) was the lone Mustang to compete on platform, and finished sixth to qualify as part of the top eight. The finish was a career best for the sophomore at the Championships, who was eighth in 2020.

Smithson went on to earn All-America honors in the event last season after the cancelation of the 2020 NCAA Championships, and is the back-to-back American Athletic Conference champion in the event.

Smithson, Dominic Hoefer and Parker Hardigree will compete on 1 meter Saturday to close out the Zone Championships. The top nine finishers on the event will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships with Smithson (3m, platform) and Hardigree (3m) eligible to advance with a top 12 finish after having previously earned automatic bids.
