Men's Swimming hasn't been a factor at the NCAA Swimming Championships in a while. Our 3 representatives excelled with Caleb Rodenbaugh delivering his personal best and setting an SMU school records, which is no small feat given our rich history, in the 200 yard breaststroke.

GREENSBORO, N.C. (SMU) – Caleb Rhodenbaugh set the SMU program record in the 200-yard breaststroke for the second time this season to lead the Mustangs on the final day of the NCAA Division I Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

Rhodenbaugh topped his own mark with his preliminary performance, winning his heat in a time of 1:53.80. The senior stormed back in the final 25 yards to clock the fastest time in the third of six heats and place him 19th overall in the 43-swimmer field. He was originally seeded 29th in the event.

On day three of the Championships, Rhodenbaugh posted a career-best time in the 100 breast (52.95) to finish 30th overall.

In two seasons with the Mustangs, Rhodenbaugh swept breaststroke conference championships and earned seven total all-conference honors.

Peter Smithson saw action on platform Saturday, finishing 31st with a six-round 282.80.

Smithson also competed on 1 and 3 meter at the Championships, placing 41st and 42nd, respectively.

The sophomore earned repeat Most Outstanding Diver honors at the 2021 American Athletic Conference Championships after winning titles on 3 meter and platform.

I’m not a swim guy. Why did no non-power5 team score a point?

They certainly can score points. SMU should score points next year. For the last few years lack of really good coaches, combined with really talented athletes who really want to work hard and be great. Hopefully that changes at SMU in the next few years.

Yes, we have a fine Indoor Facility.

However, we have the opportunity to move into a true, first class position by adding a proposed Outdoor pool. Fund raising has begun and we may be able to commit to it by this summer.

Combined, these two long course pools would make us among the best and be quite a destination.

Pony Up!

No points in 2021. But at least close. Caleb Rhodenbaugh was 19th, top 16 score.
Next year we will hopefully but able to score in multiple relays plus a a couple of individuals.
