SMU Defeats Tulsa, 3-0, In Midweek Matchup

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU dominated against Tulsa on Tuesday afternoon in a 3-0 final at Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium to tie the season's series with the Golden Hurricane and earn the fourth Mustang shutout of the season.

The Mustangs (5-4-0, 5-4-0 AAC) outshot the Golden Hurricane (5-3-1, 5-3-1 AAC), 25-14, and had 10 shots on goal throughout the match.

SMU had multiple chances to start the action before Papa Ndoye scored the first goal of the game in the 25th minute. Skage Simonsen took possession in Mustang territory and fed the ball to Ndoye, who met it at midfield and beat out the Golden Hurricane defenders to put SMU on the board first.

The Mustangs took their 1-0 lead into the break and scored two more during the second half of play.

SMU earned its second goal of the game in the 51st minute when Ndoye's shot deflected off the Tulsa goalkeeper and Harvey Castro came up the middle, knocking the ball in for his first career goal.

Simonsen scored the third Mustang goal, sending his shot across the box and burying the ball in the lower left hand corner off a pass from Gabriel Costa in the 86th minute of the match.

Cole Johnson earned his first career shutout, saving all five shots on goal out of the 14 total shots that he faced from the Golden Hurricane. Brandon Terwege and Tobin Shanks helped Johnson to the shutout by anchoring the Mustang backline.

Next up, SMU hosts Temple for its season finale on Saturday, April 10 at 7 p.m. at the Washburne Soccer and Track Stadium.
