Humphries and McGinnis Join Men’s Golf Program For 2021-22
DALLAS- SMU's men's golf program announced the signing of J. Holland Humphries and Kellan McGinnis to National Letters of Intent. Humphries and McGinnis will enroll at SMU in time to compete in the 2021-22 school year.
Humphries is currently ranked as the No. 13 golfer in the 2021 recruiting class and the No. 2 recruit from the state of Texas. Humphries notably broke three-time major winner Jordan Spieth's scoring record with an -11 score to win the 2020 Byron Nelson Junior at Lakewood Country Club. He has twice won the Sergio and Angela Garcia Foundation Junior Championship at University of Texas Golf Club, and has 10 top-10 finishes in WAGR-counting events.
Humphries helped Austin Westlake win Texas 6A State Championships in 2018 and 2019, finishing tied for ninth at the state tournament as both a freshman and sophomore. As a senior, he led Westlake to a District 26-6A Championship, finishing second individually, and still has the possibility of winning a third straight state championship with the top-ranked Chaparrals.
McGinnis has a prolific career on the Junior Tour, amassing over 30 top-10 finishes. During the summer of 2020, he finished tied for ninth at the 2020 Southern Texas Junior PGA Championship and tied for ninth at the George Hannon Junior Invitational. A high-school teammate of Humphries, he finished in a tie for ninth at the 2021 District 26-6A tournament.
