Mustangs Fall To North Carolina In Four Sets

DALLAS (SMU) – SMU volleyball fell to North Carolina in four sets (27-29, 25-15, 25-20, 25-17) on the final day of the SMU DoubleTree Invitational. The Mustangs (2-1) hit .297 with 15 kills to take the first set. Hannah Jacobs paced the SMU offense with a game-high 19 kills, but the Tar Heels notched a .326 hitting percentage and were able to take the tightly contested match that consisted of 22 ties and 12 lead changes.

Kaylyn Winkler, who finished the first set with a timely block solo, joined Alex Glover with six kills for SMU. Jadyn Bauss added nine kills and 13 digs. Bria' Merchant defensively led SMU with 19 digs while Lily Heim and Makayla Miller added 12. Heim also produced 37 assists on the day with three block assists to lead the Mustangs in both categories. Alison French made her SMU debut on the day grabbing one block assist. Alex Glover tied her career-high with two service aces in the match.

North Carolina (3-0) was led by Mabrey Shaffmaster and Nia Robinson with 17 and 10 kills, respectively. UNC gathered 22 block assists and 58 kills.
